A Journey Through Nature
VR Capture was brought in by an advertising agency to create a high-end immersive fulldome experience for a leading cosmetics brand. Designed as a journey through nature and water, the project seamlessly blended real-world cinematography with CGI landscapes, creating a breathtaking experience that captivated audiences.
Project Overview
The goal was to take viewers on an awe-inspiring visual journey, immersing them in lush landscapes, flowing water, and natural beauty. To achieve this, VR Capture collaborated with the agency to develop a detailed storyboard and shot list, ensuring a fluid, visually striking narrative that aligned with the brand’s vision.
Filming & Locations
Filming took place in KwaZulu-Natal and Cape Town, carefully selecting locations that would highlight South Africa’s natural beauty. These included:

Flower fields around Cape Town, providing vibrant and colourful backdrops

A cave and an inquisition site, adding texture and depth to the journey

Lush tropical forests, enhancing the sense of immersion

Waterfall Bluff on the Wild Coast, bringing the raw power of water into the narrative

To complement the footage, we integrated high-quality stock clips, including additional waterfall and landscape shots, enhancing the final production without sacrificing creative vision.
Technology & Techniques
To ensure a cinematic and immersive experience, VR Capture used a range of advanced filmmaking tools and techniques, including:

360º cameras for capturing every detail from all angles

Motion dollies to provide dynamic, seamless movement

Drones for stunning aerial perspectives

Timelapse cameras to showcase nature’s transformation over time
CGI & Animation
Alongside live-action footage, VR Capture created CGI landscapes, seamlessly integrating them into the final film. These animations, generated using game engines and 3D software, added fluid, hyper-realistic transitions between scenes, elevating the storytelling and creating a truly immersive experience.
Event Launch & Audience Reception
The Fulldome Experience debuted at the Hey Neighbour Festival in Johannesburg (2023), where it was a major success. Festival-goers stepped into the dome, were taken on an immersive journey through nature, and exited into further brand activations, deepening their connection with the product.
Awards & Industry Recognition
The activation received industry recognition and awards, with its immersive brand storytelling standing out. VR Capture’s contribution to the fulldome content played a key role in the success of the project, showcasing the power of immersive media in commercial experiences.
